Enhanced geothermal uses recent advances in drilling techniques to access hot rock nearly anywhere on Earth, generating power 24/7 with no greenhouse gas emissions.

Enhanced
Geothermal Power

A high impact energy solution

Baseload Power

Geothermal electricity is reliable and uninterrupted (capacity factor well over 90%)

Modular & Scalable

Our plants come in standardized 80MW modules, each being a drilling pad with 20 wells and two turbines

Dispatchable

We can ramp up and down to match grid demand

Peaking Power

Well pair system lets us produce temporarily from all wells to capture peak grid pricing and displace fossil peaker plants

Storage

Unlike any other generation, we can accept extra power from the grid and store extra pressure in our reservoir to monetize later

What is "enhanced" geothermal?

Instead of tapping into natural water-filled fractures in hot rock (which can only be found in volcanic areas), we create our own. Hot rock itself is ubiquitous if you go deep enough, and in large swaths of the world sufficient heat is accessible at under 6km depth - the deep end of the range oil and gas drillers regularly drill today.

Over the past five years, several companies have proven this next-generation approach – including our partner Sage Geosystems. The first enhanced geothermal plant in the US is operating commercially, with 100s of MWs under construction.

High scalability, high impact

Best of all, enhanced geothermal is both ready to go today and insanely scalable. If the US drilling industry alone drilled the same number of wells each year but for geothermal, we could replace the entire fossil power fleet in the US in under 10 years. And, as we scale this 24/7 climate solution, we will be re-employing fossil fuel workers in their current jobs.

The world urgently needs 24/7 carbon-free energy to meet our climate goals and fill in where wind and solar can’t. Enhanced geothermal can fill that gap immediately by leveraging existing oil and gas expertise and drilling capacity for rapid buildout.

Our Partners

As a developer we work with the best technology providers for each project's unique conditions.

We have partnerships with multiple enhanced geothermal startups, but our first project in Texas will use Sage Geosystem's design. The advantages of this design (unique even within the realm of enhanced geothermal) that make it perfect for a first project include:

  • Does not require permeable rock, reducing siting risk or specificity

  • Downward fractures access hotter rock below wellbore, saving drilling cost

  • Fractures do not need to connect, eliminating precision need in installation and later issues of friction and short-circuiting

  • Short laterals, saving drilling cost

  • Higher flow rate, increasing net output per well pair
